Notes: The Twins' executive chef, Phillip, put together an incredible chicken with wild rice soup as the main course for the TwinsFest volunteers and staff. Serving out of the Twins' executive staff kitchen and dining room, Phillip started working at 6:30 am to craft the velvety smooth, rich tapestry of buttery broth, flavorful chicken and carrots, and the namesake key ingredient: the wild rice that is a staple of local foodlore. Minnesota has more acres of natural wild rice (Zizania palustris) than any other state in the country; wild rice has been historically documented in 45 of Minnesota's 87 counties and in all corners of the state. Anecdotal information suggests an even broader distribution prior to European settlement. (source: Minnesota Department of Natural Resources).

RedWingsBaseball.com staffers hungrily consumed nearly four bowls of the lush, luscious soup, followed by a rousing standing ovation when chef Phillip visited the Red Wings booth after work. But there's not much rest for the master; Phillip will rise again early Sunday morning to blend the TwinsFest-concluding back end of the gastronomical double play: his beef barley soup. Check our Sunday coverage for a photo of the artist at work, and a complete review of the beef barley soup.
