RED WINGS CELEBRATE 50 YEARS OF COMMUNITY OWNERSHIP WITH 50 DAYS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE
The 2007 season marks the 50th anniversary of Rochester Community Baseball Inc.'s community ownership. To celebrate, the Red Wings front office staff will participate in 50 Days of Community Service leading up to Opening Day Friday, April 6.
“Throughout the 2007 season we will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of Rochester Community Baseball, and we felt this was the most appropriate way to honor the legacy of Morrie Silver, whose efforts insured that many generations of our community would be able to enjoy Red Wings baseball,” said Red Wings General Manager Dan Mason.

Silver led the efforts for a community-wide stock drive in late 1956, which enabled Rochester Community Baseball to purchase the franchise and Red Wing Stadium from the St. Louis Cardinals - thus preventing the certain move of the club to another city. On Feb. 27, 1957, the final payment was made to the Cardinals and RCB became the owner and operator of the club and ballpark on Norton Street.
The Red Wings will kick off their 50 Days of Community Service on Tuesday, February 13 with a pizza party for patients and staff at the Golisano Children’s Hospital, and close out their 50 Days of Community Service on Opening Day Friday, April 6 when they, along with many of their corporate partners and fans, will be donating 2,500 Opening Day tickets to local community centers around Rochester.
“My father would be so proud of what the Red Wings mean and have meant to this community for so many years. The 50 Days of Community Service is an outstanding way to carry on his dream of Rochester Community Baseball making a positive impact on his beloved city, well beyond the sports and business aspect,” said Rochester Community Baseball Chairman of the Board and C.O.O. Naomi Silver.
“Morrie Silver was always generous with his time, effort, and resources and we look forward to continuing that tradition of giving back to our community,” added Mason.
