2007: Started the season with Triple-A New Orleans and was a September call up for the New York Mets… Went 11-9 with a 4.27 ERA in 25 games, all starts with the Zephyrs…In 139.0 innings, he allowed 129 hits, 70 runs, 66 earned, with 44 walks and 120 strikeouts…His 120 strikeouts ranked fifth in the PCL... Won five consecutive decisions from May 13 to June 30… Opponents batted .244 against him in the minors, with left-handers hitting .230 (57-248) and right-handers hitting .256 (72-281)… Struck out six or more batters nine times…Tied a career-high with 10 strikeouts on August 22nd vs. Iowa…In that game, he took a no-hitter into the ninth inning, before allowing a single with one out…Finished allowing just one hit, one run, and one walk in 8.1 innings… Allowed three earned runs or less in 18 of his 25 starts… Pitched five or more innings in 20 of his 25 starts… Recalled from New Orleans to the N.Y. Mets on Sept. 1… Appeared in two games in relief for the Mets (Sept. 5 at Cincinnati and Sept. 11. vs. Atlanta), going 0-0 with a 3.00 ERA…In 3.0 innings, he allowed three hits, one run, earned, with two strikeouts… Made his first major league start on September 26th vs. Washington…Worked 4.0 innings, allowed six hits and five runs…Had a no-decision in a 10-9 loss.

2006: Started the season June 22 after having Tommy John surgery the previous season...made one start for the Gulf Coast League Mets, he worked 4.0 innings allowing three runs on seven hits...was promoted to Single-A St. Lucie of the Florida State League...won his first start June 28 vs. Jupiter...made just seven starts before he was promoted to Double-A Binghamton on August 1...made six starts, pitching 5.0-or-more innings in five of the six...posted a 1.57 ERA (23.0 ip, 4 er) over his final four starts before he had his contract purchased by the Mets on September 5...made his Major League debut in the ninth inning on September 24 vs. Washington...he worked a scoreless inning and struck out Felipe Lopez for his first career strikeout... tossed a scoreless inning in his second and final appearance of the season, September 27th at Atlanta...made one start for the Mesa Solar Sox of the Arizona Fall League...he pitched 2.0 innings allowing one run on two hits and struck out three.


2005: Started the season with Single-A St. Lucie (Mets)...made his professional debut April 7 vs. Vero Beach...allowed just one run in his first 10.0 innings (two starts) while striking out eight and walking just one batter...pitched 7.0 innings in three straight starts June 11-29, including striking out a season-high 10 batters June 24...was promoted to Double-A Binghamton, July 11...started that night vs. Norwich and suffered the loss leaving after 4.0 innings with elbow discomfort...his season came to an end July 19th when he underwent reconstructive surgery on his right elbow...Dr. James Andrews repaired the ulnar collateral ligament in Birmingham, AL.

 

PERSONAL: Philip Gregory Humber...wife Kristan...2001 graduate of Carthage (TX) High School where he was named the Class 4A Player of the Year and led his team to the State 4A Championship his senior year...also earned District 16-4A Most Valuable Player honors, named All-State as an infielder and All-East Texas as a pitcher in 2001...attended Rice University and was a member of the 2003 National Championship team...ranks second in school history in strikeouts (422), third in wins (35), fourth in innings pitched (353.2) and sixth in starts (49)...was honored with “Philip Humber Day” in his hometown of Carthage, TX on June 26, 2003.

AMATEUR CAREER: Pitched at Rice University 2002-2004...named First-Team All-America by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, USA Today Sports Weekly, Collegiate Baseball Magazine and Collegiate BaseballInsider.com and Second Team by Baseball America in 2004...led Rice in wins (13) and strikeouts (154) in 2004...struck out a school record 17 batters vs. Hawaii on March 17, 2004...tossed a complete game five-hitter in 14-2 win over Stanford in 2003 NCAA championship game...named First-Team All-Western Athletic Conference in 2003...won 17 consecutive decisions at Rice before he lost on April 11, 2003 at Fresno...named National Freshman Player of the Year by Collegiate Baseball in 2002...went 11-1 with a 2.77 ERA and 130 strikeouts in 18 appearances in 2002.
