CLIBURN NAMED NEW WINGS SKIPPER

The Minnesota Twins have named Stan Cliburn manager of the Rochester Red Wings. The 48-year-old Cliburn was the manager for Double-A New Britain in 2005.

Cliburn will enter his 18th year as a minor league manager, his seventh in the Twins organization and his first season in Triple-A. Cliburn, a catcher, put together a 14-year minor league career from 1974-1987. A 5th round pick of the California Angels in 1974, Cliburn batted .179 with two home runs and six RBI in 54 Major League games (all with the 1980 California Angels). In his 14-year playing career Cliburn spent time with the California Angels (1974-1980, 86), Pittsburgh Pirates (1981-85), and Atlanta Braves (1987) organizations. Cliburn batted .256 with 62 home runs and 395 RBI in 866 minor league games.

Hitting coach Rich Miller and trainer Tony Leo will all return for the 2006 season. New Britain pitching coach Stu Cliburn has been named Red Wings pitching coach, joining his twin brother and Red Wings manager Stan. Stu replaces Bobby Cuellar, who has been named bullpen coach for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Riccardo Ingram
will take over for Cliburn as the New Britain manager, joining former Wing Floyd Rayford and Stan Cliburn's twin brother Stu on the Rock Cats staff. Click here for the Twins' official press release of Oct. 19 with the complete 2006 minor league staff assignments (pdf file).
