What: Clean Sweep / E-Waste Recycling Event With all the area colleges, universities, research institutions, and leading edge technological industries, the City of Rochester’s Clean Sweep Program would be incomplete without dedicating some of its resources to what is commonly referred to as e-waste. E-waste is the term used to identify the obsolete technology - desktop and laptop computers, cell phones, TV’s, VCR/DVD units, printers, copiers, fax machines, and other electronic equipment - that has the potential to pack our landfills. Fortunately for Rochester residents, our city is home to Maven Technologies, LLC. Maven Technologies, established in 1998, has a zero tolerance policy regarding e-waste in landfills, and is the premiere computer and electronics recycling firm in our city. Serving local organizations, corporations, and institutions as well as generating global commerce through its products and services, Maven has organized a precise process for reducing the amount of e-waste in our landfills, re-using technologies for the benefit of individuals and industry, and recycling at component level. Maven Vice President, Todd Wheaton, is committed to reinvesting in the Rochester community, and states, “this area has so much to offer, and an event such as this is a win-win situation that highlights the benefits of reciprocity and teamwork”. Maven, in conjunction with the Rochester Red Wings and the City of Rochester, will be providing residents of Rochester and the surrounding communities with an opportunity to properly recycle computers and other electronic equipment, at no charge*, for the benefit of our households and landfills. More significantly, this team is working together to raise awareness of and support for Camp Haccamo. Camp Haccamo is a special needs resident camp nestled behind the developing businesses of Panorama Creek. Haccamo provides a weeklong overnight experience of imagination and nature, at no charge, for 480 campers each summer. These campers may suffer from autism, Cerebral Palsy, cancer, Down’s Syndrome, or other developmental disabilities, and would not otherwise be able to enjoy the Haccamo experience without the generosity of suburban Rotary Clubs of Monroe County, the United Way, Wegmans Rochester LPGA Tournament, and other generous donors in the Greater Rochester area. Maven technicians, Clean Sweep volunteers, Camp Haccamo staff, and suburban Rotary Club members will be available to assist with the recycling event, respond to any resident questions. Rotary member will also be available to accept any donations for Camp Haccamo. Residents are encouraged to attend the celebration of this collaborative at the Red Wings game, scheduled for 7:00 that evening, and enjoy the fireworks display that will follow. * Due to the toxic hazards associated with recycling TV’s, Maven will be charging a small fee of $5.00 per TV. All other electronic equipment will be accepted for recycling at no charge. Additional donations to support Camp Haccamo will be graciously accepted and greatly appreciated Click here for a pdf flyer about this event; you can right-click and save to your computer, then print out or email to your business associates, family and friends.
